Casa da Calçada built during the 16th century, to become a master palace of Count de Redondo is declared by the Portuguese Government as a building of high architectonical, historical and cultural relevance, maintaining its neo-classical elements in a romantic atmosphere, which invites travelling to the past, in a homelike and welcoming ambience. The eatery which serves olives on a bonsai tree has taken first place in the restaurant Oscar. A Spanish family restaurant set up by two brothers next to their parents’ bar has been named the best in the world. El Celler de Can Roca , whose menu has featured caramelised olives served on a bonsai tree, was opened by Joan and Josep Roca in a working-class Catalonian neighbourhood in 1986.The Roca brothers’ avant-garde eatery in Girona, north east Spain, now heads a top-10 lineup dominated by Spanish cuisine.
Chef Joan Roca of the three-Michelin-star El Celler de Can Roca (currently ranked #2 on the World’s 50 Best List) has been developing El Somni, a culinary opera, with his brothers Jordi and Josep and the video artist Franc Aleu. The project consists of twelve acts accompanied by twelve courses of food. The piece contains musical robots, state-of-the-art animation, and the contributions of major players in the worlds of art, music, and food.
Minimalism at its very best, Danish restaurant Noma, also the Michelin Star Award winner, promises an unlike-any-other package.
Chef Rene Redzepi of Noma, dubbed “the rising star of European Cuisine”, has cooked at some of the world’s most well-known restaurants including The French Laundry, El Bulli and Le Jardin des Sens in Montpellier. Having learnt from the best, what Chef Rene offers at Noma, is, according to the restaurant, his “personal rendition of Nordic gourmet cuisine with an innovative gastronomic take on traditional cooking methods, fine Nordic produce and the legacy of our shared food heritage”. Having been described as offering “an emotive, intense, liberating way of eating, unlike any other”,Noma has established its “difference” in rediscovering and bringing back to Denmark, outstanding foods from across the Nordic regions.
Booking a table here however, is anything but simple. Bookings here are open only one day in a month and this too for reservations that can only be made three months down the line or more.
One of only four restaurants to have three Michelin stars in the UK, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, headed up by Executive Chef Jocelyn Herland and his award-winning team, has long-been one of the world’s most talked about restaurants. On our visit, we were pleased to see it live up to such high expectations.
